Peruse, ponder, connect, act.
I have all along considered it as a big joke. The search for a person credited with extraordinary moral and spiritual insight and for a person to foretell from signs or symptoms; a person endowed with divinity! I have read the Bible and the Quran. Eve (Howwa) and Adam and we their progenies are mere mortals bereft of godhood. I have neither read nor heard that the Lord God has ever forgiven Adam and Eve or their progenies. I may be subject to enlightenment.
I do hear and read of celestial beings, inferior to the supreme God, but superior to man. Being a religious person I do not question but accept that is written in all religious scriptures read and practiced by the followers of the faiths. The apostles of these scriptures were blessed with powers to the extent the Almighty ordained and yet the warnings to them and to us were repeated and admonished. That these scriptures are complete and total are reflected in their reverence and esteem and that no addition or alteration is accepted by their followers.
Then why? The Baba’s, the Peers, the Gurus, the Saints, and many such worthies? Are they disseminating something that our apostles have missed out? Are they feeding us with something that is new and fresh? Have they the stature and the endowed power? Are they ordained divine? I could go on and on. Alternatively, are they superhuman; with supernatural power or virtue; something which inspires awe? Regretfully I have discovered none!
Divinity always carries connotations of goodness, beauty, beneficence, justice, and other positive, pro-social attributes. These attributes over the ages have been omnipresent and have contributed to our well being as individuals and groups. They can not be missed or forgotten; maybe some of these forsaken intermittently. The system then corrects itself through a joint effort or coaxed by individuals. However, divinity and divine power are credited to living, mortal individuals. Political leaders are known to have claimed actual divinity in certain early societies — the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs being the premier case — taking a role as objects of worship and being credited with superhuman status and powers. More commonly, and more pertinent to recent history, leaders merely claim some form of divine mandate, suggesting that their rule is in accordance with the will of God. The doctrine of the divine right of kings was introduced as late as the 17th century, proposing that kings rule by divine decree; Japanese Emperors ruled by divine mandate until the inception of the Japanese Constitution after World War II. But then we are well aware of the outcomes of such usurped divinity!
Among us all men were created sons of God and stood erect, as conscious of their divinity. Everyone has a spirit that can be refined and fine-tuned, a body that can be effectively trained in some manner, a suitable path to perceive and follow. We are here to realize our inner divinity and manifest our innate enlightenment Life is a culmination of the past, an awareness of the present, an indication of a future beyond knowledge, the quality that gives a touch of divinity to matter. Nothing is accidental in the universe except the entire universe itself, which is Pure Accident, pure divinity. The correct description is that we try every day to become more humble when we talk about divinity, we try to realize how little we know and how open minded we should be. We alone are our seers and our prognosticators
To need nothing is divine, and the less a man needs the nearer does he approach to divinity
